Alcohol Related Birth Injury (FAS/FAE) Resource Site
Service Centre - FAS/E Services in Alberta
FAS Support Groups / Advocacy
Alberta Association for Community Living Services: Provides support and services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
Calgary Native Disabled Society Resource Centre Services: The Centre offers Aboriginal support specifically for parents of children with special needs in the Calgary area. It also does advocacy lobbying and support workshops to parents and caregivers.
Community Behavioral Services Services: Provides counseling, consultation and intensive, hands-on support to indi-viduals with FAS or other alcohol-related birth defects regardless of the level of mental disability. FAS workshops for parents and agency staff are also provided.
Families for Alberta's Children Today Services: An adoptive family support organization by and for adoptive families par-enting children with special needs such as FAS/E. The organization exists to promote health adoptive families through education, resources, support groups and buddy families.
Family Care Inc. Services: A privately owned, community-based agency providing personal devel-opment, famil support and in-home care services. Presentations on alcohol and drug related birth defects and /or sexual abuse are also provided.
Family Centre Services: Provides services in the areas of information, education, support and coun-selling, children and families. Coordinates a support group for parents and caregivers of FAS affected children, teens and adults.
FAS Association Services: An FAS support group for parents and professionals, providing informa-tion on a wide range of concerns and questions for FAS/E. The association has produced a resource book entitled 'Handbook for Independent Living' and a book entitled 'Two Sides of the Coin.'
FAS Parent Support Group Services: Provides support and information to parents, caregivers and interested people. The group is coordinated by Tina and Reg Gelasco.
FAS Task Force Services: This is a group of concerned individuals who provide consultation and ad-vocacy with the goal of making a difference in the understanding and pre-vention of FAS.
FAS/FAE and Related Birth Disorders Support Group Services: This group provides support, understanding and education for the families of those who have been affected by drug and alcohol related defects. They provide referrals, education, residential placement and housing informa-tion, vocational employment setting, parental support teams and education for the educator.
Hobbema Indian Health Services Centre Services: The Centre does FAS/E workshops for parents, teachers, community groups, etc. The workshops cover the basics of FAS/E, describe case studies and provide other information as appropriate. The Centre has a li-brary of FAS/E resources.
