Service Centre - FAS/E Services in Alberta
Education, Training and Prevention
Alberta Special Education Branch Services: For general inquiries about programs and services for students with FAS or other prenatal alcohol related effects.
Calgary Native Disabled Society Resource Centre Services: The Centre offers Aboriginal support specifically for parents of children with special needs in the Calgary area. It also does advocacy lobbying and support workshops to parents and caregivers.
Catholic Social Services Services: Catholic Social Services offers training and consultation to families coping with a diagnosis of FAS.
Community Behavioral Services Services: Provides counseling, consultation and intensive, hands-on support to individuals with FAS or other alcohol-related birth defects regardless of their level of mental disability. FAS workshops for parents and agency staff are also provided.
D-V Massey & Associates Services: Dr. Massey is a chartered clinical psychologist and special educator. She has considerable experience in working with adolescents and adults who are having difficulty with employment issues, independent functioning and personality or emotional disorders. She also conducts training workshops and professional symposia on FAS/E.
Edmonton Adopting Beyond Infancy Association Services: The Association gives presentations about FAS/E from a parent's perspective and emphasizes a positive environment in which these children can learn, develop and succeed.
Families for Alberta's Children Today Services: An adoptive family support organization by and for adoptive families parenting children with special needs such as FAS/E. The organization exists to promote health adoptive families through education, resources, support groups and buddy families.
Family Centre Services: Provides services in the areas of information, education, support and counselling, children and families. Coordinates a support group for parents and caregivers of FAS affected children, teens and adults.
FAS Association Services: An FAS support group for parents and professionals, providing information on a wide range of concerns and questions for FAS/E. The association has produced a resource book entitled 'Handbook for Independent Living' and a book entitled 'Two Sides of the Coin.'
FAS Parent Support Group Services: Provides support and information to parents, caregivers and interested people. The group is coordinated by Tina and Reg Gelasco.
FAS Task Force Services: This is a group of concerned individuals who provide consultation and advocacy with the goal of making a difference in the understanding and prevention of FAS.
FAS/FAE and Related Birth Disorders Support Group Services: This group provides support, understanding and education for the families of those who have been affected by drug and alcohol related defects. They provide referrals, education, residential placement and housing information, vocational employment setting, parental support teams and education for the educator.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Coordinating Committee Services: This group consists of community professionals who collaborate to maximize the availability of resources for alcohol-affected individuals and their caregivers. Their focus includes prevention, intervention, care and support. The committee also oversees the Alcohol Related Birth Injury Website.
High Prairie FAS-ARBD Committee Services: The committee is composed of professionals and parents. They distribute provincial materials, notify members of all upcoming workshops and conferences, and provide workshops for various communities.
Hobbema Indian Health Services Centre Services: The Centre does FAS/E workshops for parents, teachers, community groups, etc. The workshops cover the basics of FAS/E, describe case studies and provide other information as appropriate. The Centre has a library of FAS/E resources.
Opokaa'sin Early Intervention Society Native Counseling Services: Provides professional counseling services for Native individuals and families; Family Life Improvement Program; assistance for young offenders in court.

People Works Consulting Services: Provides information packages, mediation, workshops, speakers, individual and group counseling, referral, parent training and general consultation regarding children and adults affected by FAS/E, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
