Service Centre - FAS/E Services in Alberta
Assessment and Diagnosis
Alberta Heredity Disease Program Services: A clinic that provides consultation for the diagnosis of FAS. The clinic recommends that FAS concerns are first discussed with a family physician and a history of maternal alcohol use is confirmed prior to referral to the clinic.
Allin Clinic Services: Dr. Malinowski deals in general pediatrics but does assessments and referrals for FAS/E. A referral is not required to see him.
Child Health Centre Services: The clinic provides consultation for diagnosis of FAS and recommends that FAS concerns first be discussed with a family physician. A history of maternal alcohol use should be confirmed prior to referral to the clinic.
Children's Health Clinic
Services: FAS assessment and diagnosis, recommendations and referrals for children from birth to age 18. A referral from a family physician is required.
Dr. John Holland, Pediatrician Services: Dr. Holland provides FAS/E diagnosis, some treatment and referrals. He sees children from birth to age 16. A referral from a family physician is required.
D-V Massey & Associates Services: Dr. Massey is a chartered clinical psychologist and special educator. She has considerable experience in working with adolescents and adults who are having difficulty with employment issues, independent functioning and personality or emotional disorders. She also conducts training workshops and professional symposia on FAS/E.
Genetic Clinic Services: The clinic provides final consultation for diagnosis of FAS/E at any age. Referrals are accepted from pediatricians from the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital as well as from genetic nurses Marnie Clark at the Jasper Place Health Centre and Lorna Deluth at the Eastwood Public Health Centre. It is recommended that FAS concerns be first considered with a family physician and then referred to a pediatrician or the Glenrose.
Miscordia Community Hospital & Health Centre Services: Dr. Smith does neurodevelopmental testing for children and adults. A referral from a family physician is required.
Pediatric Consultants Association Services: The Association provides investigations, assessment and treatment for children 0-18 years with FAS and a variety of developmental delays. Physician referral is needed.
Red Deer Community Mental Health Centre Services: The Centre provides assessment and treatment for children from birth to 18 years of age who are experiencing behavioral or emotional problems. While some services are not specifically targeted for FAS affected children, some of the children served by the Centre fall into the diagnostic category of FAS or other prenatal alcohol-related effects. Services are available in various communities.
Special Interest Psychiatric Disorder of Children & Adolescents Services: Dr. O' Malley is involved with the Fetal Alcohol and Drug Unit in Seattle and the FAS Community. He is doing research on FAS with the University of Washington Department of Psychiatry.
